The Agricultural Careers program focuses on the science and production of the nation's food and protection of its resources.

ANIMAL SCIENCE focuses on food-producing animals and animals important to the pet industry. Basic animal biology, anatomy, and nutrition are used to help students understand more about the animal industry. State Biology standards are embedded into the Animal Science curriculum.

FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT looks at a farm through its records and record keeping. Business analysis, types of businesses and business decisions are covered.

NATURAL RESOURCES investigates the generation of energy and forest products. The course also focuses on Minnesota habitats and the wildlife each contains. Advanced Hunter Certification is also available.

PLANT SCIENCE deals with all aspects of plants in our society. Basic plant biology is the starting point to understanding plant uses, whether for food, fiber or decoration. A second component of this course is soil science, which looks at soil and why it is important to our survival and the survival of our plant communities. Plant Science embeds most of the state Biology standards.

Students have the opportunity to join the SWMetro chapter of the FFA

"FFA is an inter curricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of three components of agricultural education. FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more." -FFA.org 

FFA offers students conferences, leadership skills, scholarship opportunities, and a nationwide network to develop career and education connections. 

National dues are $7 per year.
