Special Education Coordinators Jyoti Sinha and Tom White talk at Staff Kickoff 2017.Martin Luther King, Jr. has been quoted as saying, “Life’s most urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Please do not hesitate contacting me if I can be of assistance to you or your students in the areas of Professional Development, Assessment, Literacy/ Curriculum, or Evaluation. Each month I will try to update you on any professional development or assessment items that you need to be aware of. This month, I would love to take the opportunity to find out ways that I can be of assistance as well as recognize those who have been so helpful to others already this school year!

Thanks to those who shared their knowledge by leading and teaching classes throughout PD Week, New Staff Orientation, and Kick-off Week. It is greatly appreciated.

Thanks as well to those who are serving as professional mentors to staff that are new to SouthWest Metro. Many teachers say that there is often as much benefit in serving as a mentor as you are giving. I hope that will be the case for each of you as well.

Thanks to those of you who signed up to serve on committees. It is important to have a voice in the direction of the organization so that the organization also works for you. There are still lots of openings on committees. There may also be other committees that your union may ask you to consider that were not available for sign-up at Kick-off. If you have an interest in serving on any of the committees, please let me know.

Huge T H A N K  Y O U to the Custodial Staff for donating the Vikings Tickets for our Kickoff raffle.

Click here to download the accompanying documents from our Kickoff Keynote Speaker, Tom Cody. We will be sending out a survey about the Professional Development and Kick-off weeks. If you have comments about those items please respond to the survey, share your thoughts with a member of PD Advisory, or contact Joy Whitehead or Dave Olson. We appreciate the feedback so we can serve you better!

In an effort to continue to build on Professional Development opportunities and communications, I am hoping to add some information under “Professional Development” on the website. Look for those enhancements soon.

If you would like some additional training on Edmentum, please let me know. Geoff Johnson is willing to come to sites and offer professional development. I would love to organize any requests and be able to communicate those opportunities to the entire District to make the best use of Geoff’s time and effort.
