Transition Programs

Shakopee Town Square Mall
Transition programs provide services for students who have Individual Education Plans between the ages of 18 and 21. Much of the students' time is spent in the community, learning to use public transportation, accessing community supports and volunteering or obtaining paid employment.
The transition program serves students in all disability areas. Curriculum for the transition program focuses on the three areas of transition: post-secondary transition, jobs/job training and community participation. The transition program works with adult service providers to make a seamless array of services available for students and their families. Coordination with outside adult service providers allows for a smooth transition from high school to young adulthood.
The transition programs have highly specialized staff, including special education teachers, work experience coordinators, a social worker, and paraprofessional staff. The students enjoy small class sizes, individual instruction and immediate feedback. Students may have the opportunity to participate in career and technical classes or community college classes during their school day.
