NES Test

FOR SPRING 2020 COHORT ONLY


All three Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills (EAS) subtests must be taken by December 15, 2019 to be admitted to the Work & Learn SouthWest program beginning in February 2020.




All three Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills (EAS) subtests must be taken by July 28, 2019 to be considered for initial employment as a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Teacher.


The Work & Learn Program requires that participants applying to begin class in Spring 2020 must take all three NES Essential Academic Skills (EAS) subtests by July 28, 2019. Participants must at least be registered to take the test before the Work & Learn SouthWest Cohort Application is submitted for review by the District.*

Test appointments fill rapidly and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit mtle.nesinc.com for test locations and to register. A Pearson VUE testing center is conveniently located at SouthWest Metro Intemediate District’s Adult Education Center at 792 Canterbury Road in Shakopee.

When you register, you must agree to abide by all testing rules and policies. Alternative testing arrangements can be made including extended testing sessions. Be sure to select University of St. Thomas as the receiving institution for your test scores.

The NES EAS Test is computer based with multiple-choice and written assignments. A passing score is 520 per subtest. You may take one, two, or all three subtests at one test appointment.

Reading (MN188)  |  45 multiple-choice questions; 75 minutes
Writing (MN189)  |  36 multiple-choice questions, 1 writing assignment; 90 minutes
Mathematics (MN190)  |  45 multiple-choice questions; 75 minutes

* The ACT + Writing minimum scores may be presented in lieu of registration for the Minnesota NES EAS tests.
